VW Golf 1998 1.9TDI. Central locking has gone mad. will it cost a packet or can i fix myself.?
car locks itself randomly
all four doors dont lock together.
Answers:
These doors are not operated by electricity they are operated by a vacuum system. You have a vac pump in your boot l/h side check th vac hoses coming off these tend to perish.
maybe the battery of the fob needs replacing. to unlock all doors u have to press open twice (quickly) at a close distance.
if u unlock car and don't open a door within 30 secs- it auto locks for safety
I suggest to leave the windows down when you take it for an estimate. Had to many do that to me at work.
I fixed this problem on my 2000 Jetta. Turned out dip switches on the alarm control module were set wrong and I had to replace on lock actuator. If you are not comfortable ripping your doors apart if it becomes more complicated, you should just take it in in the first place, as you might mess it up more. Also, check ALL fuses and relays first!
Get a Haynes Workshop Manual for your car, these tell you everything you need to know about your car.
probably find the door actuator is stuffed replace it but its a big job if u dont know about cars just find a cheap auto electrian and ask him could he fix it and how much or ask a vw dealer if they heard of same problems in that year model car
