Peplacing Bushings, an expensive job.?
Rang my local Ford dealer who said it is a high labour intensive job and likely to be expensive.
Anyone know it this is true, the likely cost or should I shop around with back street garages.
Answers:
you mean the bushing the shock lies in at the bottom?
or even the top?
wth??
if it is "only" the bushing, it is as simple as taking off the tire, disconecting the leaf or compressing the spring, and takiing out the shock absorber.takes about 2 hrs max dude and only one guy. a shock or anything with it is cheap to replace, unless you live in a third world country.
struts are a pain.and they are in front
a jack (or 2), fourway, spring compressor, and shock compressor are all that is needed, which should be pretty easy to find in a mechanic shop
Yes, it is definitely labor intensive, as the entire wheel assembly and the susupension for that wheel have to be taken apart and eventually reassembled. Depending on the vehicle, you're looking at probably 4-6 hours of labor, at least. Some vehicles will probably even require two mechanics for part of the labor. Bushings themselves are not expensive, but getting to the darn things isn't easy.
i own a repair shop, and the bushings aren't expensive to put in at all you need to check around before you go with just one opinion on it,most of the time the bushings just come with the shock,s but now days you can buy them separate,,id call other places ad see what they wanted to repair it,there,s always someone cheaper, and better, good luck,i hope his help,s.
