205 1.9 gti, r5 gt or charade GTti?? best one?

Answers:
Having worked with all 3, my prefernce would be the 205 only because parts are still readily available for it. The 5 turbo was great fun when it ran ok, a real pain when it didnt. I loved driving the Daihatsu. The Charade Gtti suffered a bit from turbo lag but was more than a match for my mates 205, in fact, he tried once, got absolutely whipped by the charade and was too embarassed to ever take the charade on again. When Daihatsu entered the car in the British rally championship, they made them compete against the 205s and much larger capacity cars. Daihatsu beat them all hands down. Good luck in trying to find a good GTTI, if you decide too. Havent seen 1 for years.
Charade - ha ha ha, take the pug.
i`ld go for the 205. great handling plenty about, keeps the prices down, cheap parts, lots of styling mods around very tune-able
As standard all around 8secs to 60 but R5 and charade are both turbo so much easier to tune up. Personally i would avoid the r5 as its renault and will fall apart pretty quickly. Also it is hard to find one that hasn't been thrashed. Another problem with these is they have good pace under 80mph but die off quickly after. Loads of owners will say you can overcome this with mods but with all that extra money to spend you might as well get a faster car to start with (mr2 turbo, 200sx).

The 205gti engine is a peach and if you look around you can get one that is in pretty good nick, although expect to pay around £1000-£1500 for the plesure. Can't really tune the engines to more than 140bhp without changng major parts (and major money), although this is still good and will give a lot of hot hatches of the same era a run for their money. Only downside is body work problems and reliability of the whole car, it's french after all!

The charade is the one to go for, it might only be 3 cylinders and 999cc but it develops 100 bhp as standard. 0-60in around 8 secs. Not many 1ltrs can match that. With a free flow exhaust, induction kit etc you can be looking at around 120 bhp. Start turning up the boost and it'll be even quicker and beacause its japanese its 'under tuned' anyway so the engine will comfortable take 150 bhp all day everyday. Again the downsides are body work and unthrashed models. They are the rarest of the three and demand a high price for one in good condition. Still it sure would be good fun to eat cars that have twce the cubic capacity!

As an extra thought have a look at the mr2 mk1. Might only be a 1.6 put will hit 60 in 7.8 and will handle better than any of the cars above due to its mid engine rear wheel drive. Also looks the best IMO.
The Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi is one of my favourite cars.
Take the 205, but keep it original.
Buy the 205 1.9 GTI i had one a good few years back it was great Half leather seats 15" alloy wheels. I wish i still had it.
