Please recommend a reliable second hand car for less than £8K in the UK?

Answers:
Try a Renault Megane, my friend. Ask for a warranty though.
Renault Clio DCI Dynamique (80 or 100bhp) - gets 65-70mpg, and just £50 a year to tax.
Renault's NON!. They have so much electrical crap on them, badly built. They die after the warranty runs out. A honda Civic. 1.7 turbo diesel. That's what you need, if you can find one. Note that the 2002 model (not sure about others) had a turbo that could die any day. But Honda care enough to put an extended warranty for (I think) 9 years on the dodgy turbo and will replace it for free when it dies.
Skoda Octavia
any mazda or toyota.
best buy for 8k is a bmw 318i run for ever and very good on petrol
any peogeot or ford in your price range would be very reliable.
Vauxhall Astra 1.7 Envoy DTI
only one answer to that and its toyota
There are two choices and it's up to you

Honda Jazz - it simply brilliant small car and you can get used 54 reg for around £7850

The engine is a1.4 l and it;s topped the JD Power Survey in 2004 for category of inerior, build quality, reliabiltiy, ease of driving

Being a Honda it's very reliable and you do get lot of space inside i.e magic seats which give you a numerous combinations of way to stor things whether it be long , tall or wide- almost enough to match the calss above i.e space of VW Golfs and Ford Focuses. It's bigger than the second option I recommend and it's slightly quieter on the motorway too. Ride is firmer but at least it lest fidgety than the second option I recommend.

2 nd Option is the Toyota Yaris and I personally own one of these.

It simply brilliant, the ride is unfortunately fidgety compared to the Honda Jazz, but it is certainly relaible - it's a cracking used buy and it's cheap to service - over 3 years it costs a total of £365 and my first service was only £100.00

It's slightly noiser on the motorway comapred to the Honda Jazz but fuel economy it trounces the Jazz and if you buy a diesel then it gives up to 60mpg - i.e you could do anything from 350 miles on one tank (petrol) to 500+ miles ( one tank of diesel)

Toyota Yaris are being snapped up quickly becasue of good fuel economy, cheap servicing, very reliable and consitinelty inthe top 10 for JD Power Survey during the last 5 years - a 55reg would cost from £6670 for a 1.3 litre petrol and £6170 for a 1.4 diesel

Don;t consider the 1.0 litre cos it's fairly slow and would struggle with motorways uphills. The diesl is more quieter than the 1.3l.

And the finally trick up it;s sleeve is those seats at the back they can be move 15cm forward and abckward dependeding if you want more rear passenger space or bigger boot space and also the rear seat back can recline back ward for a more comfortable position too.

There are plenty more cars to recommend but personally these are the top 2 contenders for used car and I prefer the latter hence I have one but the choice is up to you and why not take a test drive in both and compare them yourselves.

If you have any more question please feel free to ask me

oh and by the way don't buy a renault clio because my mum has one and it takes several attempt to start the car- the other day it took me 7 atempt to start the car even on a hot day and in winter the tyres are slippy on ice and snow. My mums record for attempt to start the car was 17 times the other night it took both me and my mum to start the car. Eventually we ended up doing a rolling start to get the engine running. My mums's clio is a 52 reg. And why the car doesn;t start is to do with something about ignition coils.
I have a Ford Focus 1.6 Zetec, registered Nov.2004 so it still has 16months manufacturer's guarantee left. It has only done 13000miles,and is in perfect condition. It has air con.,cd player etc and is cheap to tax and insure and very economical to run. You can have this for £6950-- a bargain price, 'cause my new car has arrived
