How did countries decide which side of the road to drive and why?
Answers:
i believe it has something to do with safety although this my be total rubbish. back in the dim past when people used to ride horses (because there was no other way to get around) and there where highwaymen etc everyone everywhere used to ride on the left because for nearly all people there sword hand was the right and made sense to have this facing the road as this is where most threats came from. however when Napoleon took over most of Europe he decided that because his roads were so much safer people could now ride on the right and he passed a law to that effect. that i believe is where the driving on the left in England and the rest of Europe on the right comes from. however it might be completely wrong
Excellent question.
which country you live in now, the first man or women who owns a car in your country decides which side to drive left or rigth.
It all depends on the sun, in england the shade is mostly on th eleft hand side of the road so the drive on the left in most countries the shade is on the right so they drive there but in meditereanian countries the sun is everwhere so the drive wherever they please

There are some interesting myths and facts.
Tossed a coin.
Japs had Austin 7s in it form as their first cars not model T fords, so they continue drive on the correct side (left) as it was obvious the 7 was intended to be driven on the left
something to do with holding a spear in your right hand but the americans changed for trucks
A wild guess here, but have you noticed that a good proportion of countries that drive on the left are part or were part of the British Commonwelth. For example Britain, Australia etc The Brits invented cars so perhaps everyone else wanted to be different and drive on the left. The Light and shadow theory, Highway men or woman might also be true. Who knows
