the book won't go back that far and with an iconc car like a Mk1 it comes down to how much love its had, and how much your prepared to pay/ cheeky enough to ask for it!
average condition on a 19yr old car means its going to be pretty rough. if some pervert has hacked it all about to fit big stereos, lowered suspension etc you want it to be mint. with no service history but with tax n test £600 top. but you see minters changing hands for £2500. depends on the car. look at plenty of examples before opening your wallet
