What is an engine wiring harness?

Answers:
DONT touch it. its baaaad.
It the part of the wirng loom that is specific to the engine.
That is a bundle of wires wrapped up and dedicated to a certain location, such as the engine.
it is the loom that comes from the engine, specifically all of the sensors such as water temperature, air temp, Mass airflow device, crank sensor (for timing) etc. and is fed back to the ECU (computer) to determine spark advance, fuelling etc.
A wiring harness is also known as a wiring loom.

It is a collection of wires that deal with a specific part of your car.

So it is a collection of wires that controls and connects the major electric components within and on your engine.
a wiring harness carries power to or from electircal items on the engine, starter motor, alt, dissy etc.
To keep it simple.
the wiring harness otherwise called the loom connects all the electrics to your car to the different accessories i.e lights ,ignition, sensors, ciggy lighter.
it is colour coded for each individual circuit so from a wiring diagram you are able to isolate an electrical fault and repair that section where the fault is.
for example you have a fault in a headlight.
You would get the diagram for your car and look at the wiring on your headlight and you can trace the wire back to correct the problem.
this is only basic and there can be other related problems bad earth etc etc
