When was the 70mph introduced on our motorways?

Answers:
The 70 mph limit was introduced in 1965. Before then, the sign that we now take as national speed limit, meant no speed limit.

If the police thought you were going to fast, the offence was "speed dangerous" (if I remember correctly)

My regular journey in those days was between London and Norwich. About 110 miles and outside London there was not one bit of dual carriageway.

Once on the open road, my general cruising speed was 105mph. But there was a lot less traffic on the road.
