How is a suzuki vitara on fuel consumption?

It is horrible! Drinks alot esp during 4wheel mode! Unless if there's an option which allows you to switch from 4x4 to 2x4. Other SUVs which have this option is the toyota RAV4 and the mitsubishi Outlander.
depends how you drive it, they are little jeeps really and have enough power but prefer to be put into a high gear and just chug away, my fiance vikki has a lead foot and need for speed so gets horrible economy, i can get her to and 40 miles to the gallon keeping her under 50 and driving carefully, vikki can manage 15 miles to the gallon by changing gear late and doing 60-70,
having said that we are just away to buy a new 207 diesel mainly cos of our vitaras poor economy

GET A PRIUS
Its gutsier than a 4.0 Cherokee. If you're motorway driving its even worse cos you're revvin' the **** off it all the time. The 2.0 even worse than the 2.5 cos of this. And the 1.6 is as bad. DON'T BUY ONE!
They are very heavy on fuel consumption but saying that lets be honest you don't buy a 4 by 4 expecting fantastic fuel economy.If your worried about fuel costs then maybe you should look for something else other than a 4 by 4
