Why do I have to pay more because I have a larger car?

There are plans afoot to charge higher road tax and parking charges if you drive a 'gas guzzler' i.e. a car with high CO2 emissions. But what if I only use my seven seater when I'm driving the kids and all their mates around - if it didn't have seven seats we'd have to take two cars. And when I take the Porsche for a spin at the weekend when I go out to lunch - should I really be paying over £1000 in Road Tax for 20 miles a week, when the same car could be doing 200 miles per day?

Because we live in a country where common sense is thrown out of the window, and the mad who emerge from tree houses have been given a mouthpiece. Your car may be the most practical on the road, but that woman on her bicycle, wearing clothes from the charity shop doesn't care. In her rather narrow mind, she isn unable to see how your kids wouldn't fit into a Smart ForTwo, or how you wouldn't be able to use the cramped and unrelaible buses effectively. This ignorant woman simply sees you as a greedy, capitalist pig.

This sort of person has brought about this sort of society, and the politicians have seen it as a good way of making more money out of us mugs. They get the green vote, and quite a lot of money.
come up with a better plan.
That is unfair. Large cars can be economical at times, especially when car pooling. But, these hippie's just think we are horrible people if we drive a large automobile, like we are going to hell or something. I would go to the government with that one; and present your case. Chances are you are not the only one with those feelings towards this new ordinance. That is just plain unfair!
invest in a horse and carriage...
It may not seem fair to you, but don't forget it's not fair on me (who walks everywhere or goes by public transport) to breath in your fumes and think about the grerater environmental impact. You buy a big car you pay more tax - seems fair enough to me.
Solution - get a more economic car. I bet you've never even been off road in your bloody 4x4!! Or walk if you're only doing 20 miles a week. That costs nothing!
I agree with lead belly. Any better ideas? I drive a compact that is good on gas & up to date on emmisions.I should pay for you too? I don't think so!
Your rich, so stop whinging ,and caugh up.
Oh , and can i borrow the porshe this weekend?
sure..
size matters...
I guess the Gov figures if you can afford pollution you can afford higher tax.
Dude. If you've got a gas guzzler and a porsche, why are you so tight?
Depending on how the tax rates are structured in your country, you may already be paying more for that large vehicle. Does your country impose charges on petrol? If so, the more petrol your vehicle uses, the more tax you're going to pay.
I don't understand the Porsche bit. That must be unique to Britain.

Larger vehicles are usually heavier and create more wear and tear on the roads. Don't they usually decide this kind of thing on weight and wheelbase? Oh, and a Smart Car takes very little parking room. These costs should encourage everyone to use a more eco-friendly automobile.

If you are car pooling with other parents, it makes sense. If you are stuck giving everyone rides because you seat seven, then each kid's parents should make a contribution.
try walking
cars are a luxury not a neccessity! learn to use transport and ur 2 feet. especially with kids.. look at all our fat kids these days cos parents ferry them everywhere!
and dont disagree untill u have lived without a car for a while!
Well it's not a matter of justice it's a matter of treaty. UK signed the Kyoto protocols so they need to get rid of the gas guzzling and old polluter cars on the road and one way to force you to get better cars is to make operating your other cars to expensive. Thus you trade in your guzzler and get a small wagon to haul the troop around and the govt meets it's goals to comply with the treaty. Get it,got it good!
its nothing to do with environment or emissions! its all about the labour partys age old begrugment of people who work hard so that they buy nice things. on top of that they finished what they started in the 70s by killing what industrys we had left, and they got wars to fund! so welcome to this governments new income.motorists
