I have put diesel in a petrol car only 8 litres and run it for about 2 miles what can i do is it wrecked?

Answers:
Just fixed works vehicle, manager put petrol in a diesel. now all that fuel had to come out so I am running my car on petrol with a bit of diesel in it, bit of smoke but no biggie.
So no your engine isn't wrecked just fill it and run it, It will oil the valve seats which is ok. it will be all right and rosey in a day or two.
take it to a garage
fill up with petrol
Drain the gas tank, put the right kind of fuel back in it and then crank the heck out of it until it starts and stays running again with no misses. I really don't see any reason to take it to a mechanic.
I did this about 6 months ago had to have the tank syphoned but it does depend on the size of your petrol tank. if you have a large tank 8 litres might be fine and you might get away with it. I put in nine litres and was just over the amount where you could get away with it. If you had put in too much the car would probably have ground to a halt by now.
i know if u put the wrong petrol in your ment to put your own petrol in aswell to dilute it down dunno if this is just a tale or not tho!
well as they say on the AA adverts, if you fill a petrol car with diesel never turn it on because the moment you do it can cost £2000. I advise you dont drive the car anymore and try and get it towed to the garage or have someone look at it where it stands.
You should stop using it straight away and get it to a garage.

I think the only ray of sunshine is that it might not be quite as bad as putting petrol in a diesel engine . but given the cost of a new engine you should get professional help straight away.
Not too bad, fill up with petrol and run normally, the other way arund though and kaput
Syphon out all the fuel and add the proper fuel. If you had put petrol in a diesel car the car would be badly ruined, the other way round is not as bad by a long way but you must not risk driving it further before you replace the fuel. When the correct fuel is in to to a garage to get the car checked over just in case.
<>You are much better off than if you had put gasoline (petrol) in a diesel engine (that would have been bad!). You merely need to drain the tank (siphoning as much out as possible is OK) and FILL the tank with petrol. Start it up and run it.it will probably smoke for a bit, but that should stop after it runs 1/2 hour or so.
I reckon if you put petrol in a car that ran on Derv then it would be worse. I would just drain the tank from wherever the car is now and re-fill with petrol, put loads in though, so that any Derv left in there, is diluted as much as possible.
It isnt wrecked but its going to take a lot of cleaning.
The procedure is as follows. Empty as much fuel as you can out of the tank and refill with petrol.
If the car will start run it at medium revs.If it wont emty the tank again and refill with petrol.
If you can get it running it will run like a pig and chuck loads of black smoke out.
If you have fuel injection you might need to have the system cleaned.
But basically it is a case of keep filling it with petrol and driving it untill it cleans its self , this could take several weeks.
Also it might have buggered your cat up, burt dont worry about that untill your mot.

It wont have done any permanent damage to your car. If its an old car all the better.
Also since you've allready run it, it cant get any worse so dont worry so long as its not making to much smoke keep using it and keep topping up with petrol to dilute it.
Diesel in a petrol car should'n;t do much damage, (if it was petrol in a diesel car, that could burn the tips of your injectors).
Fill the car up with petrol, and crank it over in 10 second bursts, (any more than 10 seconds and you could burn out your starter motor), better to get a booster battery or a donor car and jump leads.
If it doesn't start after a couple of minutes, try changing the spark plugs.
It's highly unlikely that you will wreck your petrol engine by putting a little bit of diesel in.
The best thing you can do is to fill up with unleaded as soon as you can. This will dilute the fuel already in your tank. Do this everyday until the car is running normally again.
It will run like s hit for a while but should be ok with no lasting damage.
The engine will need flushed out with a suitable detergent along with the tank now you've used it but the car will seize up if you don't get it looked at. .. be warned
Sorry but - you muppet!

Gonna be expensive cos you were stupid enough to run it after you put diesel in. Did you top it up with petrol after the 8 litres and think you'd get away with it?
1) If its your car. you don't know what it runs on. helpfull hint - it usually tells you either under the fuel flap or by the fuel cap.
2) If it's not your car.. leave the country cos I'd want blood

Fool.
Fill it with petrol and you might get off with a lot of smoke, otherwise you'll have to drain it and refill with petrol
If you have a catalytic convert or fitted it could knacker it. and they are expensive. Otherwise fill it up with petrol run it and fill up again to totally dilute it down. It'll smoke a lot but in the long run shouldn't wreck the engine. After all diesel is really a light grade oil, you probably know that diesel is ignited by compression in the cylinder, warmed first of all by a small heater, while petrol is ignited by the spark plug. Top gear did a recent test filling a diesel car and a petrol car with fuels of opposite sort, they didn't wreck the cars although one of them wouldn't start and the other ran badly, can't recall which was which, but I doubt they would do it and wreck the cars deliberately, although Nissan Sunnys have been thrown off cliffs.
you should not have turned the engine on, as you have run it you need to get it towed to a garage and let them drain it and clean it, it will be well expensive. i know as i work in a garage. had it of been u/l in a diesel then i would advise topping it up with regular fuel,
Hey - chill! The really bad one is putting petrol in a diesel car. A lot of petrol cars can cope with a liitle diesel in them.
No,if its still going fill it petrol and keep going,it wont hurt anything.
