Yes, but only if you get something like a Defender. Toyota hilux (old version) is also quite good off road.
No the best 4x4 is the Range Rover not the Land Rover.

I know farmers who love their old landrover (not to be confused with rangerovers). But then I know farmers who use a bog standard van for many things. It feels like 95% of 4x4s these days don't get used as 4x4s but as planet killling pedestrian death traps in places like London.
Definately the Landrover defender 90. You won't get a better 4X4 and the build quality is fantastic - it's estimated that 75% of all landrovers built since 1955 are still on the road. You can buy a TDI with 100,000 on the clock and it'll still outlive a new car.
i have a jeep. I have been in a lot of places in it and have had no trouble.
4X4 such as landrover are great, but BMW X5 and X3 aren't 4X4's there Sport's utility vehicles, which is another thing altogether
No, the Lexus LX470 and the Toyota Land Cruisers are, so says Car and Driver. But i know for sure that the best 4x4 is the Hummer H1

OK - not a racing car + drinks petrol, but various fuels are possible.

i have had an oldish defender for about 6 years,, believe me , when it rains you get wet,when its cold out ,, your cold inside ,,its noisy ,slow,and has cost me more to keep on the road that any other car ive had,,But having said that ,, i pulled all the other makes out from the mud ,its made for the land .. not the motorways ,, and i love it too bits
i have had land rover 110 and 109 currently use a discovery all excellent off road the range rover in early guise wernt bad and the shogun is very capable as are jeep but the best 4x4 i have driven was a vw caravelle syncro surprised me too but it went where even purpose built competition landies got stuck and it was bog standard without the optional 15" wheels
An off-road and all round road test was done with a lot of the new 4x4s. When off road they got stuck! To get them out they used a 1963 L/Rover.
