How do I put a total loss back on the road?

My M reg granada was recently written off because of a dent in the wing and a crack in the bumper, thanks to an idiot reversing into me at a junction. I retained the salvage and was wondering what I have to do to get it back on the road?

p.s, it was a cat D write off for uneconomical repair, nothing dangerous.

Answers:
the insurance company let you retain it as a salvage vehicle, they should have reported it to the dmv as a salvaged vehicle. you can drive it and get liability insurance only or advise your insurance company to cover you on a salvaged value for lower rates.

if you ever try to sell it you will need to disclose it is salvaged but then again, the insuarance company should have reported that.
If its not a total loss, well find a cute mechanic, entice him to fall in love with you; and have the dude fix the car. I had a total loss a year ago; but I couldn't drive the thing. Some idiot ran a light and T-ed me goin 45mph. Not pretty. In sum, I lost the car, broke some ribs, and lost consciousness, oh yeah, and I lost my down payment on the car.
Accidents suck, so if you can't afford or finance a new car, find a good mechanic. Good luck, and keep your head up!
Push it
So, you got a lump sum from the insurance and got the car back off the insurer.
For your bumper, go to http://www.breakerlink.co.uk/ , my ford escort bumper was about £100 sprayed up in my colour.The dent you get fixed at a local garage.
Had the same prob but bigger(Bumper, hatch, back panel) with my escort, still insured with same company.
Rebuild and make it road legal Then find your nearest SVA test center get a pass, then take it for an MOT when passed, re-register your car at the main motor tax office, fill in all the formes and tax it. Your back on the road.
S.V.A. = Single Vehicle Approval.
It varies from state to state,
Where I live you have to make the repairs, keep the receipts, have it looked at by a state police inspector, then pay fees and such to get an R (reconstructed) title. Then they have to have the vehicle approved by a state inspection mechanic and get it re-registered.
I would check with your local DMV to find out what their exact requirements are.
