I once had a Datsun Bluebird estate. I took it twice round the clock and it only ever needed a new exhaust and some brake pads! These foreign cars - they're far too reliable!!
I'm amazed by some of these! Well I can't beat any of them, but anyway. I got near 200,000 miles on my old Golf, it was a Mark II 1.3, some boy racer had stripped it completly, ruined the wiring - the lights used to go out if u tried to use full beam, and sometimes out of the blue, the wipers had a life of their own, an electrician advised me to carry a fire extinguisher as there were wires hanging out all over the place, I had to tie the exhaust on with fence wire, the sunroof was sealed up with silicone and duck tape, there was a permanent puddle in the back, the clutch went and the wee plastic bit sailed right past my head while I was driving, air used to get into the fuel system and it'd shudder to a halt every 100 miles or so, always started again after a few minutes tho, till I got it fixed then it ran perfect, it had numerous other 'idiosyncracies', but it was still the best car I have ever driven. 4 gears, really quick, tiny skinny tires etc, you could really throw it about and it was so solid on the road, and I used to laugh my *** off driving past people in big 4x4's stuck in the snow while I happily drove along! You can tell I'm a bit nostalgic, I miss my old baby V.W!
