hi firstly which area are you in? for the money you mention you will only be able to get an old bike ie cr80,rm,or maybe a yz 85,big wheel always cost more because kids grow out of the small ones and want to move up,have you experience of riding?as even the older bikes go pretty well when you hit the power bands,ive been buying and selling mx bikes for quite a while and you could realy end up with a dog if you dont know your bikes,any questions feel free to e mail me on.d.dallison@ntlworld.com,i. your sons 14 you should be looking at a 125
You'll need to decide what you intend to use it for first.
Off road, Commuting, Trail Riding, Racing, etc.
Those are considered toys, not a motorcycle in the USA.
If it does not have 600cc's or more then it's just a scooter.

Avoid the cheap Chinese machines at all costs as the quality and reliability is rubbish. Better a good secondhand Jap bike in reasonable condition.
3 - 500 £ will buy you a reasonable 4-5 year old 80cc bike that has seen plenty service, but should be in reasonable condition. Remember to always check the frame and engine numbers are intact, or you may be buying a stolen machine.
Best of look in your search and remember to take along a knowledgeable adult to check it over before you part with any cash. "Knowledgeable" kids will allow you to buy any old tat.
