Any mechanic can perform the routine maintenance and service. The dealship costs more (I used to go the dealership route when I first bought my new car, thinking I had to). The mechanic can verify what things need to be done, and they can do it at a far cheaper rate.
No you don't.any reputable auto repair shop can take care of it.ask your family and friends where they take their cars.
No because the dealership will charge to much. Go to a trusted auto mechanic and have the work done. They will use aftermarket parts and the savings will start there.
With some models you do have to take them to dealers for some services as only they are in possession of all the tools. For example I had a leak on my car (AUDI) & the tool to release a particular 'bit' wasnt held by my usual mechanic as Audi will only provide 'their' dealers with them
Usually it's only necessary to go to the dealership if the car is still under warranty.

A good mechanic can do all your needed maintenance just fine.
Any will do. You can even do it yourself, if capable. If the car is still under warranty, be sure to keep any receipts for parts, and maintain a record of the service, mileage, and date. IE Oil changes, oil and filter.

That's necessary in case a failure occurs covered by warranty.
As mentioned by others, some maintenance and repairs can only be performed by a dealer.
No, you don't have to go to the dealership for regular maintenance or service, but I would stay clear of the places that mainly do oil changes and do them in a half hour or so. The reason is I took one of my cars to Jiffy Lube once and they put the oil drain plug in crooked and didn't change the gasget like they were suppose to and not only did I end up losing oil, but I ended up having a costly repair to boot. I found out from talking with other people that I wasn't the only one who had problems with those types of places.

You can always take your car to another mechanic for maintenance and service, but it's best to ask around for suggestions on who would be the best. Family and friends would be a good source, but you could also try asking at a small store that sells and installs car stereos. I was talking to the owner at a shop in my town, because I was there getting a price on putting a subwoofer in my car and we got to talking about mechanics, and he told me several good places to take my car that were reasonable. I think, places like him are a good source, because they talk to people all the time, so they get the word from the street. Plus, they even may have tried them out themselves.

There might be times you may have to take your car to have something fixed by the dealership, but a good mechanic should be honest enough with you to tell you when that is and not attempt to fix it themselves. I use to take my car to this one place and they were very honest with me and told me when I needed to take my car to the dealership to get a problem fixed. I haven't been going to them for a couple years now, because I bought a new car and it's under warrenty, but eventually I will be going back to them again.

You can also check to see if a mechanic has any complaints filed against them with the Better Business Bureau. I am including the link below.
you dont have to take it to a franchised dealer unless it is a new vehicle that still has a manufactures warranty as it voids the warranty. you can have it done at a local garage but try and use genuine franchise parts.
check with them first if this possible, otherwise warranty may become invalid
as long as the garage uses genuine dealer parts and the book gets stamped the warranty should not be declined by any dealership in case of any warranty claims
