I have a corsa and someone told me the head gasket has blown. is this expensive to repair?

symptoms, it keeps going through water, it looks like the water is mixing with the oil as it is a grey colour instead of black and fan keeps going after i stop the engine. I am taking it to a garage but it would help if i know roughly what it should cost so i know if they are conning me.

Try the advice of others, it is not too bad a job to do if it is just the head gasket, parts, maybe £60 for a Haynes manual, a decent gasket set and hire of a torque wrench.
Oil and filter change, fill up with antifreeze and the car is sorted for the winter.

You will have a fantastic sense of achievement when it is done.
Expensive? Yes, about £400.
Could be a head gasket or a cracked block or a cracked head. It needs examining and the cost depends on what it is. If it is a crack block then it will be very expensive
Depends on the amount of damage that has been done but regardless it can be costly to repair. It may be that the head has to be skimmed which could add to the cost. Good Luck and do ensure that you go to a reputable mechanic as otherwise you could get ripped off. Good Luck.
Between £350 and £800 depending on how expensive the garage is
i had a 89 corsica.
it kept going through water and running hot.
sometimes it would act like it was dying.you know when i press the gas it wouldnt accelerate
long story short.the engine head had blew and one week later i was driving a ford (i had to buy a new car)
if you take it to a garage, they will more tha likely charge around 1500 bucks. If you should happen to know someone who knows how to do this, talk them into doing it. You will probably spend around 200 bucks for the new gaskets, and maybe a little more on a few tools, oil, and antifreeze. After that, if it is the shop doing the work, they well charge a whole hell of a lot for labor.
Sounds like they are right. Depending on the engine, the gasket itself is going to be about 50- 100 dollars. 50 for a 4 cyl, 100 for a 6 cyl. The expensive part is the labor and that will more than likely be about 2-300 $$. It could end up being more if the head or block is warped or cracked. then you will be more in the $1000.00 range.
Yes ma'am it is! I've heard it'll range up to a thousand bucks depending. Have a dude escort you to the garage that's fixing your ride.
The garage will have to clean out the radiator, check the head is not cracked etc. that will cost around £400 or if you know some one who can do it for you a set of gaskets cost around £15/20
last head gasket i bought for a 1.8 vauxhall cost me £16 fitted it myself. you could ask a mechanic if he does hommers, depends on the car but not that big a job, offer him £60.
hi there it all depends on the year of corsa you have and wether its petrol or diesel. you should be looking in the range of £150 to £250 .your best bet shop around by phone find the best quote. hope this helps
Sounds like it might be head gasket but why did it go, overheating due to low water? corrosion due to no antifreeze?
Too often a new gasket is only a temporary palliative, often the cylinder head will have warped, and refacing it can cause camshaft problems even failiure, so really I would suggest a recon engine.
Its worth trying a gasket as a DIY job but not at garage labour rates.
sounds like head gasket to me,,If the car is over head cam the repairs will be a bit more . you could try a can of radiator repair. Stuff you put in the radiator to stop leaks. But sooner or later the head will have to come off.
Head gasket cheap http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/head-gasket-set-va.
its finding some1 to do it for ya cheap
Don't be fooled. If it's a head gasket, it's only a four hour job. If it's the cylinder block, your engine is goosed anyway. 20 quid parts, no more than 3-4 hrs labour, if that. They'll tell you before they machine anything, if that's what's needed. Anything more than gasket - ditch the car if it's not worth much more than 500 quid.

This stuff usually happens over Winter if there is no anti-freeze in the coolant. The water expands and it'll crack anything it's confined in.
can be expensive in spain it is about 500 euros about 350 to 400 pounds
the head will have to be scimed & preasure tested just in case of crackes
if the head is replased then even more money anouther 400 pounds probably
IF - big IF - it is only the head gasket then replacing it should not take more than an hour. Take it to a local garage, they are less likely to rip you off than a main dealer.

yes there is alway a reason for gasket to go, if cylinder head has a hairline crack then it will be a big job.
Why do people insist on buying Vauxhall Corsas?!?!? They are one of the worst modern cars ever made. No redeeming features at all! There are so many better small cars out there to buy for the same money!
Main dealer price astronomical, local garage, shop around first
should be up to £400 notes, top notch.
Its not really that costly. But if your cylinder head are block is cracked. It will be very very costly to repair. It could be from $350.00 to $500.00.But if the head is bad.The head alone could cost a $1000.00 buy itself. Sorry for the bad news.
