In the UK are you allowed to tow a car on a rope?

Answers:
Yes, but you are not allowed to tow it on to a motorway, only off it. Towing in ordinary streets is ok .
Dont know
yes i've done it
I think that is OK but is has to be secure, with someone stearing in the broken down vehicle
no only by teeth
Yes
and only if you are not a motor trader.
I think so. seen people doing it anyway
Yes, if you mean can the tow be flexible (unlike a tow bar). Strictly speaking though, I think the rope should be purposeful, i.e. it should adhere to British Standards. For example, these tow ropes are allowed:

Yeah but only if its secure and not on the moterway
If you don't have a choice just do it ~ better than leaving broken down vehicles all over the place!
Yes. There's a maximum length for the rope (check the highway code). Both vehicles must be taxed and roadworthy, and both must have a qualified and insured driver.
yes best to have a towing sign in the towed vehicle, proper tow rope, £10.00 from halfords.
Cant tow on motorways and not ideal on A roads either.
must have someone in the towed vehicle steering and braking and with hazards on.
be warned its hard work and you get a whiplash effect from the rope pulling on the car.
ive been towed about 3 times and each time it scares the sh*t out of me!
good luck!
Yes you can.
Yes
Generally, yes. But not in the bath where soap on a rope is much preferable.
u can tow d car on anything..
yes you can
yes but it u are advised not to and to use a metal tow bar instead.
yes but only to the nearest garage and not on motorways has to be a recovery vehicle.
although in Spain you cant its illegal with heavy fines but i must say car insurance has compulsory breakdown cover which i thinks a great idea and the uk should adopt it.
No!
You have to find the nearest mosque - ask them all to come to your car and pray to Allah to move it for you. This adhers to both the driving standards agency and the United Muslim state of Britain do-gooder regulations!

Of course you can use a rope to tow your car! Unless you think the above suggestion is viable???
Yes but not on a motorway or after dark
yes of course
Yes you are allowed, but the rope has to meet the safety requirements. You should check with your insurance company-they will have access to the rules and there you can find out how far you're allowed to tow, when, with what, etc. Good Luck.
Most certainly. Just ensure both cars have their respective hazard lights on. That is the only legal criteria.
Yes as long as the rear cars warning lights are working I,E stop
lights and indicators and side lights
