Porsche 911 help required?
I know I'm after a late 80's/early 90's model, hard top, undecided about turbo but I'm set on a Guards' paintjob and the tea-tray spoiler.
What I want is a (reasonably) accurate MPG figure- are they utter pigs to keep fed? Also any suggestions on keeping MPG lower would be very much appreciated (asides from 'don't floor it'). Thanks a bunch.

I've owned two 1977 911s. Best car I've ever owned. Porsches if treated like the precision machine they are virtually maintenance free, other than the normal requirements. First of all talk to other owners about the best mechanic in your area, not always the high priced guy at the dealer.
The only problem I ever had with my 77 was the orignal starter had to be replaced, 21 years old. Gas mileage, my foot is kinda of heavy, average between 25 to 28 mpg. Don't lug down your engine either. These darlings run their best at higher speeds. Use the octane recommended for your particular car and use the best oil recommended. Guaranteed to save you money overall.
Most of all enjoy it. Good luck, from a great gramma who misses her favorite car.
Hi, you said Porsche well 911RS is the right one it is very aggressive and pretty hot to handle. Turbo? yes you have to have one at least to hear it whistle.
I'd recommend an '84 - '89 911 Carrerra because those are the last and best iteration of the original. By comparison to the later models they are less complex and parts and advice are plentiful.
The '89-'93 964 series 911 looks very similar, though shares very few parts with the original series, but they drive better, especially the Carrerra 4 variant.
