What is the best normal-looking fuel efficient clean car?

I would love to cut my fuel bill but I don't want a bizarre looking car. In the UK what would be the best buy?

get a VW golf TDI. mine gets 52 MPG
4v toyota cars i think its camery but its toyota anyways.
you'll be happy with any German diesel relatively new car.
