What is the worlds fastest airplane?
Answers:
I think you will never get to know the truth as to the fastest plane. Governments are not so stupid as to let people know what is going down.
x 43, unmanned at mach 9.8
x 15 fastest manned aircraft at mach 6.7
but sr71 blackbird fastest airplane at mach 3.2
also there's the pegasus rocket and the space shuttle.
but for your purposes i'd go with the good old sr71 blackbird
The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird with a maximum speed of 3500km/h (2 200mph, or over Mach 3).
The SR-71 officially set the air speed record on July 28, 1976 when it set a two way average speed of 3529km/h (2193 mph) around a closed course in California.
Only the experimental North American X-15 surpasses the SR-71 for the outright record for a manned aircraft at 7274km/h (4520mph).
The SR-71 Blackbird Mach 3+ is the fastest confirmed aircraft in the world.

Wonder Woman's air plane ?
Technically, the SR-71; however, the shuttle during landing is a flying body that generates lift. It could be considered the fastest.
Not entirely sure but I live very close to Farnborough and the airshow is happening right above my head as I'm typing this!
They all seem very fast and very noisy to me. Ooohhh . there go the red arrows :-)
There is a US military jet called the "Haboo" (might be mis-spelled). I don't know it's military call numbers. They were supposedly mothballed in the mid-90s, but I saw CNN footage of them being used in the invasion of Iraq. The only thing faster than it that flies is the Space Shuttle.

The SR-71 Blackbird is. It holds the record for flying from New York to London in 1 hour and 54 minutes at an average speed of 1,800 mph
NASA's experimental space plane, the X-43A, set a new speed record for aircraft on November 16, 2004. In the unmanned test flight, the plane reached Mach 10 -- 10 times the speed of sound, or about 6,600 miles (10,600 kilometers) per hour. This flight broke the previous speed record of Mach 7, set in March 2004 by the X-43A in a previous test flight.
The North American X15A is the fastest acknowledged aeroplane: rocket powered and lauched from a B52 it was capable of around 7,000 mph (c.Mach 12) compared to the Mach 6 of the SR71. NASA and the USAF used it and pilots who flew it were classed as astronauts, among them was Neil Armstrong.

If by airplane you mean one that takes off on a runway and returns the same way, then the SR-71 Blackbird has the honors.
Probably something that flies out of the groom lake area in Nevada, A.K.A. Area 51

Unarmed, the Lockheed SR-71 at Mach 3.2
The fastest armed A/C is the Mikoyan Gurevich MiG-31 Foxhound. It can reach Mach 3.0
