Why you can find a rear wiper on a hatchback or estate but never on a saloon?
Answers:
Usually it is because there is room to fit a wiper motor in a hatch back saloon or estate car rear door, and on a saloon car there is only a thin scuttle at the rear window which will not have the room to fit a wiper motor.
the new mini has one my ford ka has one
peugoet 306 saloon has one if u look some do have them but as a rule the boot lid stops dirty spray not rain from going on rear window where as hatch and estate the spray goes straight up andblocks your vision
cuz the window slants down more? Can't say I've eva noticed 2 b honest.
The back of a hatch back car is at more of a steep angle to the bumper of the car- it has to be to lift all the way up. Because it is at a steep angle, rain falls on the back window and will tend to run down - rather like a house window - and obscure the vision - so here a wiper is a good idea. Larger saloon cars have boots and therefore the room for a more gentle, raked angle - it is more aerodynamic, and if you are travelling at over 20,mph you will find that the rain simply doesn't stick there - because of the aerodynamics of the shape. That said, you still feel you could do with one at low speeds! Hope this helps!
You may find that when you opened the boot it would infringe onto the wiper - also no room for a wiper motor. Hope this helps!
not many saloon cars have them, but they do exist.
