Clutch repairs - Should the clutch Cable be done at the same time?

Ive just had my clutch repaired on my car. When i went to pick it up from the garage they said the cable will need doing asap.

Shouldn't it have been in with the price and Shouldn't they do the cable at the same time?

No! The cable is never included in the Price of a clutch job. Just like when you put a new clutch on a hydraulic type clutch they don't replace the slave and master cylinder. All that's included in your clutch job was the
Clutch,
Clutch pressure plate
and throw out bearing. So the cable is considered a separate job. Sorry but I know the facts. When you get your brakes done do they automatically replace the calipers? No just turn the rotors and put new brakes on but they may recommend calipers after or before doing the brakes.. But it was smart for the shop to recommend the cable. Now if it breaks or fails they won't be responsible because they recommended it. Hope this helped you out some

the clutch cable is not done when you have a new clutch fitted
so no it would not be in the price
they very rarely go and are easily fitted
if he is ur faithful mech then , without ur permission he will get it changed & add up in the bill . But cables after a certain run got be changed even though its in running cond . Thats how a good kare can be take & mind U it only let u down at unwanted times .
No Cable life and clutch plate life are completely different, and there is no reason to change both at the same time.
It is madness not to fit a new release bearing and Clutch cover as well as changing the worn Clutch plate when the gearbox is removed to do the clutch.
If the Cable is frayed or if it does not work freely change it.
I would normally expect, with a new clutch,. clutch plate, pressure plate, thrust bearing. (BUT,..some might consider a new clutch is only a new plate and use the old pressure plate/ thrust bearing. ) New clutch cable I wouldn't expect in the price.
I have never known anybody to need a new clutch cable, unless it was defective, stuck in cold weather, and stretched. It is not part of the package and is not even part of the clutch. It is a separate assembly. They checked it for you, and told you it would need replacing at some point in the future. It will cost you the same to replace next month or next year as it would have cost to replace when they replaced the clutch. You don't mention the type or year of car, or what kind of driving you do, but how do you manage to wear out the clutch and cable both?
Good mechanics usually inspect your car. If they have opened it they check what else needs to be changed, before they start repairs they should tell you what they have found out. Some will ask for your permission to put extra things that are not part of the initial problem. It is actually cheaper to have your clutch plate and clutch cable changed at the same time, since you will be charged less for labour time. If they said your cable is damaged I will advise you to have it changed immediately. If you do not it may snap when you are very far from home or when you are in a hurry to get to some place. If it does you will not be able to drive the car and you will be left with a huge bill (touring, cable and repair). Changing a cable is not a time consuming task or difficult task so please change it before you get stuck on the motorway. Next time your mechanic must communicate with you. The clutch kit does not come with cable so you have to pay extra for the cable.
Unfortunately for you, the answer is no, the clutch cable is not included in a standard "clutch" job. Basically when a clutch is replaced, a mechanic is replacing the clutch disc or sometimes called "pressure plate", clutch release bearing, and the pilot bushing. The clutch disc is similar in material as a brake pad and wears out like one also. The clutch release bearing and pilot bushing usually are replaced at the same time due to the labor intense hours it takes to do the job. You wouldn't want to just replace a clutch disc, then put it all back together and find out that the clutch release bearing or pilot bushing are damaged and have to pay to do the labor again when it could have been done all at the same time.
Only after the clutch kit is replaced, in most cases, will you be able to tell that you have a badly stretched or worn clutch cable that needs to be replaced; such as in your case. The cable runs from the manual transmission up to the engine compartment and through the firewal to the interior of the vehicle and connects to the clutch pedal. It should not take too long to change. But make sure you adjust it properly so you do not get pre-mature wear on the clutch disc.

they are just advising you the cable has seen better days, maybe they couldnt get hold of one at short notice for your car
