Ideas for a cheap trackday car?
Answers:
pug 205 works well as cheap trackday car. especially a 1.9 with 16v mi16 angine with 205 gti 1.6 gearbox.
as for rear wheel drive. an e30 3 series bmw (pre 1991). 320i and above have amazing 6 cylinder engines. 325i 0-60 in 7 seconds and 140+mph. 6 cylinder prone to cylinder head cracking tho. 4 cylinder cars pretty indestructible and pick of bunch would be 318is. 1.9 16v 140 bhp. limited slip diff from 325i very good idea.
How do i know this? i have one. bought from e bay with 9 months mot for £190. since then it's done 20,000 miles, a good 3000 on the track and all its worn out is one clutch and 8 tyres.
good luck!
try looking for an old style mini..there great for that
AE86 Toyota Corolla is a great beginner's car with plenty of parts available aftermarket and OEM, Nissan 240sx is also a great choice for the track with plenty of options aftermarketwise and cheap as well, Mini Coopers are a little more expensive and parts are decently hard to come by, Hondas are cheap but I don't put much in for front wheel drive wheel hop and three-wheelin' around the track, an old escort can be a good car in the right hands, as well as some hotrods like the camaro or mustang. Good luck!
honda crx
MX-5 - rear drive, great handling. They eat cars with more power but less handling.
Get on Ebay and get something like a Ford Scorpio Cosworth, then remove any unnecessary parts, or if you study a bit and be patient you may even get something like a Toyota Supra, or even something Twin Turbo like a Lexus soarer or Mitsu 3000/GTO. You do get the odd super bargain on there its just a question of watching and waiting. Then remove anything unneeded and you really will have a fast car. The Scorpio is gonna nbe easy, you'll get a 96 one of around £700 tops and they still have 210BHP, And you can lighten one of them by up to a third of a ton which will make a real difference, or you can go round in a fully air-conditioned cabin, sat in leather seats, Radio 2 on the stereo, pipe in hand, just for the stupidity of it!!
