Do people know if they hold a blue badge for parking .they have to be in the car for the badge to be used?

I don't know why you should get dirty looks. In fact, should any badge holder loan his/her badge to someone else to use, not only would that badge be taken away, but is liable for a huge fine (upto £1,000, so I believe).
I am a carer and use the blue badge to run errands for the disabled woman i look after. I've never had any problems
No you don't have to be in the car, but you need to display your blue card the right way up, as some people have received parking fines for displaying their blue badge card upside down.
no, they don't have to be in the car because they could be in the supermarket and need easy access when they return. if they park outside their home they also need access. or wherever they park. that spot is there's for as long as they want in nearly all reasonable cases. what's the point of having a blue badge if you then have to make it however long it is to get to where you want to. like do you want them to park six miles away from a supermarket. do you think they are wrong or something, getting in your way.
My boyfriend's mum takes care of her elderly mother, and can use the blue disabled badge if she is ferrying her mother anywhere. It doesn't have to be the driver who has a disability in order to use it, but you must be in direct care of someone who is in the car.
The rule is that the person holding the blue badge has to be the person nipping out to the shop!! You cant sit there in a disabled spot while your disabled passanger pops into the shop (which is my understanding of disabled access) The disabled person sits in the car while the able person has access to the shop??? As for what you are driving, you may be in a camper van because you need the space for your disability.
I recentley parked next to a camper van in a disability park (my husband is disabled - he can walk - but not far) the camper van took the spot nearer to the shop, we got a few spaces up, when the driver got out it was evident and un-questionable why he should take first space - he was in a wheelchair!
And how are they gonna enforce that one he? Especially after you blagged it to the world. If i was one of those using a badge illegally i would just make sure there are no traffic warden in sight when i get in or out of the car (or from now on). Like i said . how they gonna enforce this one? The only purpose that ruling/law serves is to keep the civil servants in a job.
People seem to be getting mixed up. The blue badge scheme is for people who are disabled, whether they are the driver or the passenger. If an abled bodied person is taking a disabled person to the shops, they are entitled to park in the disabled bays, even if it is the disabled person who has gone shopping and not the able bodied one. But the abled bodied driver cannot use the badge to gain preferential parking to go for items for someone disabled, and, indeed, it should not be on show. My son is my designated driver but if he runs an errand for me and I am not in the car, he removes the blue badge from the windscreen.
