I have rover 600 air con stoped working help?

i had the air con gassed up as it was not working when i got the car it worked fine then it stoped anyone out there know anything about this its already cost £50 dont tell me to change car cant afford to also drivers side fan not coming on?

You really need to be more specific but i will do my best.

If you mean it has stopped blowing cold then the simple answer is that it has a leak and all the gas escaped. It is quite common to buy a car the 'Just needs the aircon regassing' when the reason it has no gas in is that it has a leak. The most common place for it to leak is the condensor which looks like a radiator and is mounted under the bonnet, usually in front of the radiator. The place that regassed it should be able to do a leak test for you.

Other than that it could be a problem with the condensor. If you have aircon turned on can you hear the condensor turning on? This is normally a clicking sound and can usually be heard from inside the car when the engine is idling. If you can't hear it inside the car listen under the bonnet as someone turns the aircon on (with the engine running obviously) If the condensor is working you should hear it click.

If it's neither of those then I don't know. You say the drivers side fan isn't working. Is it not just a case of the aircon doesn't feel like it's working because the fan isn't working?

Your first port of call for fans not working should be to check the fuses then I'm afraid you need to take the car to an auto electrician.

I had a rover 600 also and the same thing happened. Gassed it and after about 1 week, the gas was empty again and no cold air.

It is either 1 of two things..

1. The condensor has a hole in it which is the more likely cause. I was quoted about £200 including parts and labour but excl regassing.

2. The compressor is bust. Very costly part at over £500 excl the labour of putting it in.

I finally got the condesor sorted and it worked great. It made demisting the windows a lot easier again which was great.

Hope you get it sorted..they're great cars, especially those with the Honda engines! Wish someone hadn't crashed into the back of mine and wrote it off! :-(

you best take it to an air con expert its normally about £50 to get regassed also they can check for leaks etc
