How come only car keys are the only keys with teeth on both sides?
Answers:
The teeth are on both sides so that the key can fit either way. It is a convenience for the driver. Locks in other forms are not there for convenience, but for security. There are other locks that have keys which have notches on both sides, but the tumblers are not keyed the same on the top and bottom. It still has an up and down, but more tumblers adding to the security issue. More tumblers mean an increase cost.
Because there are millions and millions of cars out there, they generally have teeth on both sides to make the number of possible key patterns higher.
Sorry but that's not quite right. My shed lock, suitcase locks, jewellery case lock and bike padlocks all have keys with teeth on both sides.
They're not, Ingersol branded front door locks have double-edged keys, as do lots of other locks.
Because its kinda hard to steal a house. its a more secure thing.
so they can be inserted either way up, normal keys have to be 'keted' i.e orientated the coerrect way to fit the lock, obviously this would be fiddly in a car at night
not all keys is like that my car keys is not like that the older cars is not like that
