Car blew up! Floundering without one. What to buy?
Mrs Eep wants an automatic gearbox, and a car the size of an atom. I want a massive estate with a stickshift to move stuff around with. Only buying one car, so a compromise is required. We don't want to keep fixing it and we do want low fuel bills.
Absolute straining screaching maximum spend of £5000.
Vauxhalls and Fiats are banned (yeugh)
What should we buy? Help please!

i dont care but i love your avatar! howd u get him upside down and a hippy voltwswagen anydau!
Looks like the explosion turned u upside down too lmao
Sounds like you just need a sensible, reliable car with decent gas mileage. I just bought a new Honda Accord, and it's pretty nice.
I LOVE Kia. I dont have one yet, but I am going to be buying soon. Extreme value when it comes to the price tag, and the cars come in ALL SIZES. Cheap to repair. Excellent gas mileage in town and on the interstate. Overall I will be buying one within the next month. However, I understand not all cars work for everyone. So good luck to you!
jeep
A mazda
i have been driving a brand new Mazda 3 for the last four weeks (courtesy car) I couldn't affford a £13grand car but it was a dream to drive. i will weep when i have to give it back (tomorrow).
Used ford focus..those things rock! My personal favourite is red!
Get a Toyota Prius. My g/f just bought a new one to replace her old one. They are awesome. My next car will be a Prius, the only question is when I will make the move.
If you dont know, Priuses are hybrids, running on gas and electricity that is generated from the energy disapated when you brake. So they get really high millage. Go drive one, you'll be hooked. They are so damn cool.

Well I'm with you with the vauxhalls and fiats as they're pretty cheap, no offense, but hows about a second hand high class car like a mercedes, lexus, jaguar, ect. and maybe, just maybe a ford even though, i think they're pretty bad too.
a Diesel Volkswagon passat would be the one for the price.
Various engine sizes. service onece a year and will last forever.
PLEASE TELL ME HOW DID YOU MAKE YOUR PICTURE UPSIDE DOWN
I'd be inclined towards a Peugeot 306 HDi. You'll get a top-spec one at this price and they still look good. Not too sure about them having an autobox though but I know that Citroen made a few similar models with an autobox.
If that is too big, try something like a Peugeot 206SW - it's basically a 206 estate (SW = Station Wagon).
I fully recommend the Honda Jazz - They have wicked seats that fold down flat to create TONS of space in the back (to move stuff around) and only appear to be not much larger than an atom!
Very reliable, and one of the top for safety. Also, does nearly 300 miles to the tank full - not excessive on fuel!
Good luck
I personally would go for a volvo (had one for years) no problems whatsoever these things are built to last go for a 440 wuth an auto box drop the back seats and you could load an aircraft in there (literally speaking) and they only bout the length of family saloon should get decent one for less than your five grand mark
Go to ebay.com, aututraders.com, loot.com and finally check the classified secions of the newspaper. The classified sections of the newspapers should be your best bet though because one tends to get better bargains there.
Hope that helps
My focus estate has done 110000m and drives like new, very good for my (knackered) back, and no nasty repair bills. Easy and cheap to service and repair, parts plentiful. Its dull, but it works.
Get a Volvo V70 T5. Fast powerful, spacious and you have both Automatic and manual on the gearbox, obviously get a geartronic.
