If he is looking for the expansion valve he can get that at almost any autoparts store (I tend to think that it is *not* the part).
Link through parts america to the valve below; 17 bucks plus shipping - if that is not it look through the parts list and match pictures to what you need.
As an FYI: the R12 and R134 system operates at the same basic pressures (different volumes) most if not ALL A/C parts are interchangeable between the systems.
(Fed. EPA Cert for both systems)

There is a dude on e-bay that might have the parts you need ,, pull up e-bay and look for texaserick2006 he has a variety of older car a/c parts !!!!!!
The reason for that is because it's an old "R12" system, which violates current EPA regs. Back in the 70s a can of R12 refrigerent cost about a buck and a quarter, now a can can go for over $100 bucks
