Why do all of europe use summer and winter tyres, and britain keeps the same tyres on all year. Whos right?

Answers:
My guess is that Britain does not get alot of snow. The other reason may be that, similiar to Canada, All Season tires are in great use.
cos british are tight arses
It's down to weather.in Britain we just get crap weather most of the time, whereas Europe has greater extremes of weather, so often different tyres or even snow chains are needed.
Because we are too stupid to realise what a great benefit it is. When I lived in Shetland I used Winter tyres and changed back to ordinary tyres during the Summer months.

Perhaps the weather is the deciding factor as what tyre to use and of course the costs in the UK for these tyres are prohibitive.
just speaking to my friends from portugal and France (europe right) they use same tyres all year round
'cos British gotta manage what they have! Lol
We don't get hardly any snow in the UK now and you can always use snow chains. Most drivers in England have little experience of driving on snow too. But when you do have to drive on it it's easier with abs braking, front wheel drive and traction control. For someone who has experience of driving on snow - it's easy these days - unfortunately, there are other people on the road; with less experience. I think in parts of Europe - it's colder and - you have a lot of ice and snow. It may be worth changing then. but a good driver doesn't really need to. I have talked to people in cold countries and they drive all year around on the same tyres - they can't afford to do otherwise - but in places that are isolated they change tyres in the winter to a tread that is much deeper - what we used to call "town and country" tyres in the UK. I used them because - they had little grip - but lasted years! They always screamed around bends too! lol
Climate and road conditions. Most of Europe Has Mountains and snowy conditions at altitude. Brittan is surrounded by the gulf stream and is a Island.
I have been using winter and summer tyres for 8 years now and will keep doing so. It can make the difference between life and death. The difference is so vast, it should be law! Even with the "milder" british weather. Imagine having the same stopping power you currently have on a dry road in summer, during wet winter conditions. Your life, limbs and family don't have a price - go and spend the money. It is the cheapest life assurance you'll ever buy!
