I have just bought a 1993 VW POLO Cl 1.1. Looses power when I first pull awawy?

Everytime I start the car, after it has been idle, ( Whether it be for 5mins or 5hrs) I get about 50yds, and although my foot is on the gas, it slows right down, as if I'm applying the brake. After a minute or two, once I've 'got going' it's fine. It is also 'pinking' a bit, more so up hills.
Can anyone help please?

I'd make sure you are using the right sort of petrol. Otherwise sounds like either the fuel filter is clogged, the mixture is out of adjustment (carburettor or injection) or electrical fault: old spark plugs or ones that have had the gap set wrong: electrical points set wrong or old/engine management at fault: the timing could be out. Could even just be the spark plug leads are no good. Probably a simple thing but pinking will be damaging your engine if left unchecked - can cause holes in pistons. I'd recommend a tune up on the kripton machine thingy, either from mobile mechanic or local garage as this can diagnose weaknesses and faults. Good luck :-)

Fuel mixture needing adjusted,in line filter clogged,or it could be your inlet manifold leaking
