How can i 'poop up' an old diesel van?

It's a Ford Courier 1.8. It got no guts going uphill to the point i am getting desperate for a sticker that reads HILLCRAWLER!

Answers:
if its not the TDI, fit a turbo, from a scrap yard
turbos had it
Go with the sticker. Sorry to say it but it's hopeless. If you wan't to know how to tweak your cummins or your powerstroke I would be all over that one. I have never heard of a courier van. Is it foreign? Austrailian or something? Pretty much, there is not much you can do with such a small diesel engine. It probably only has 50 hp to start with but it must get great fuel mileage. You might be able to do something with the injectors/pump and air intake, maybe gain a few hp there. That is only if someone offers parts for such a beast. Good luck
yep nothing u can do man, der is no turbo in it so its time for the big bad trade in to someting new and shiney, depends where your livin, but i traded in a seat inca 1.9 van in bits and got 4200 euro for it in dublin, sweet. so sweet! u should do de same man..
Put some diesel reddex in it from Halfords & give it a good thrashing, Mate!
It will give you a laugh when you see smoke come out the back as it clears!
If you don't want to trade it in the other option is a reconditioned engine! Ford Enginges are easy to come by , but what ever you do its going to cost you some Dosh!
recondition the engine with new valves, rings and reboring the engin block.
sell it! or take it to a demolition derby and just kill it.
That old 1.8 diesel with no turbo is a dog. I took an Escort van out about two weeks ago, and that was a non-turbo 1.8, and it was murder. 0 to 60 in 29 seconds, and a top speed of just about 70, and if it had to go up a hill, it just got slower and slower.

Not much you can do, they are just miserably slow with no turbo on them.
not much you can do with these, check fuel and air filters are clean and you can have the timing checked.
possibly just getting old but should only need knocking down to 3rd or 4th to hold reasonable pace up most hills.
