If the brand new brakes on my car are rattling what does it mean. are the pads the wrong size or something?
Answers:
I am taking it that you are actually talking about a rattling noise when the brakes are not applied and driving down a road and hitting small bumps. If this is the case then the anti rattle clips have not been reinstalled on the new pads during installation. However if the rattling means like brake pedal vibration then either the rotors have not been turned or even in some cases, new rotors have been installed, but not of a high quality steel, like from China. Either way, you should take it back to the repair shop or if you did it yourself, get the necessary parts to correct this problem. Good Luck!
Get it checked out!!
as a mechanic of 15yrs it's very very very hard to fit the wrong pads on something and the caliper still bolt on.the only way they could rattle is if someone took the retaining clips off the caliper brackets.but im 99 percent sure there not the wrong pads..it could just be another problem
they are probably improperly installed. most brakes take pins or have tabs to secure them. Also if it's the rear disc brakes.try pumping the park brake.that's how they adjust
Time to take it back to the shop and btch btch btch!!!
it means you better take it back and get them adjusted or a refund
You need to have your rotors resurfaced, this usually happens because they are not straight due to wear and tear. you can take them yourself to a Napa autoparts or your local auto parts store and they can do it for about $20 a piece wich is better than paying someone up to $200. Good Luck!
Rattling brakes,( brake peddle shudder when braking?) normally means warped discs?
Rattling, check the wheel nuts, especially if you fitted new discs they bed in to their spigot with use and the wheel nuts become loose.
If it is a rattle it must be a loose bolt so check everything before you drive it again.
It means you either had your pads fitted by a fool or a really bad garage.
Sounds to me like the retaining clips have been put in wrong. Book it into a Kwik-Fit or that type of place and get them to check your brakes.
It means that who ever installed your brakes forgot to install anti rattle kit.
I would tend to think that the anti-rattle shims were left out when you had your brakes done. The brake shoes/pads replacement kits do not come with new shims and the old ones were probably too bent up or rusty to be reinstalled. To ease your mind, have the mechanic look at the potential problem.
