What is the best age to sell a car to avoid it developing problems?

My car is nearly four years old and I am thinking of selling it before it starts to develop problems. When is the best age to sell a car to get a reasonable use out of it but avoid anything wearing out?

Answers:
If you do average mileage I'd say 4 to 5 years but if you do less mileage than the average then I'd probably get rid at about 60/70K.
that depends more on mileage than age
mine is 16 years old never misses a beat varys on the make normally about 5 years
In todays market with automobiles that are basically designed for 200,000 miles plus with proper maintainence, I would think around 100,000 would be a fair estimate to ensure no major repair would be required! But then again, it all depends on the car, the driver, the maintainence, road conditons, weather conditions, financial ability, etc.
Obviously it depends on what it is, how much you use it, how you drive it etc. I just got rid of my vauxhall corsa and that was 6 years old I got rid of it because I didn't want problems occuring either. My advice would to be change it every 4-5 years but just make sure you pay off any finance before getting in to debtxx
i think that really depends on what your car is. i think a toyota camry or lexus will last longer without problems than a ford focus or cavalier.
What kind of car is it?
Depends on the make and mileage
Drive it to death. Should last 10-15 years (unless it is French). Then, and only then, throw it away and get a new one.
Every car has its depreciating value - which means wear n tear of the car value.keep the depreciating rate as minimum 10% or 20% from the time u purchased. Amount reached on the day of sale will not be da actual amount, however, u hv to even check the market value of the car on that day. Consider all this..

Basically, there is no specific time to sell ur car. the car may wear out as per the time n da way u use it. if u maintain it, no matter hw old it is. it deserves a best value on dat day.
depnds on the brand of car. If it is a domestic car i'd sell it well before 100,000 miles.a Foreign car like a Honda or Toyota can last much longer so you can drive them over 100k miles and still get a fairly good resale value on it.
I always sell my car when it is 3 years old, before it goes out of warranty and before it needs an MOT. That way, I've got my money's worth out of it and it is still worth a good amount when I go to sell ot.
Any car, at any time, whatever age, can develop problems.

I would suggest if you car is working, and fully maintained, keep hold of it.

If you start getting problems, then think about cost. Is it cheaper to have it repaired, than buy another.

I try never to buy a new car, as it decreases in value by 15% as soon as you leave the garage showroom.!

If you have a car that you like, keep it well maintained, and it should last you twenty years.
As soon as the warranty expires is always a good time. 3 years for most vehicles, and 5 years for a few others.
Depends, most cars will go on for a long time now before developing any problems. I have a Ford Scorpio 2.3 that has just made 200,000miles, is 9 years old, and the most major fault its had was the requirement of a new battery, Also have a Jaguar XJR that is equally reliable. If you drive it normally, not too softly and use the full power on rare occasions just to keep it lubricated, but generally just drive it like you should, it will probably go on for another 10 years before you have to do anything of significance to it.

On the other hand if you never press the engine at all or drive to the other extreme (like your hairs on fire), then you'd be lucky if it hasn't already given you problems.
age is irrelivant its how the cars looked after.
Depends on the make.
If you can afford the depreciation, change your car every three years, just before the warranty runs out.
