Induction Kit cleaning?

I've recently bought a ford cougar and found it had an induction kit installed.

When starting up from cold, i hear a brief but loud noise as if something was blocking airflow into a vent somewhere. My friend pointed out that the induction kit filter cone needed cleaning. How could i do this? would it be better for a garage to do it? (i'm not very mechanical) And is this the likely cause of the loud sound i hear?

Answers:
K&N do a cleaning and re-oiling kit for cone-type air filters. Don't soak it in petrol or any other silly tricks, it will ruin it, and the cone itself needs re-oiling after it has been cleaned.

It's called a K&N Filter Recharger Kit part no. 99-5000. That, strictly speaking, is a motorcycle kit, but it makes little difference, it's all the same stuff. It's even OK for panel-type filters as opposed to cones.

I buy mine from the local motorcycle dealer's shop. £9.99.
i recommend you take it too a shop and let them look at it
the part store sells the filter cleaner
