Looking to replace Mk 4 Golf (51 plate) what to get.?

I'm looking to replace a 51 plate VW golf with 30000 miles on the clock, firstly, any ideas as to how much i could get for this private or trade?
secondly, what to replace it with- something similar size, economy and at least a 1.4 16v engine. I was thinking maybe a toyota corolla?

Toyota Corolla is being replaced soon so not a good idea, anyway, they are not the best car around. How about a new Golf 1.4 tsi, the one with a supercharger and a turbo? Your car, don't know how much it is worth, but if you trade it in at a VW garage, they will give you a very good price
get a mk 5 golf 1.8turbo and remap it through revo-technik 210 bhp and 236 lb/ft torque.
