Vectra fuel problem?

I have a 99 V reg Vectra arctic DI

Stopped all of a sudden and would not start again.

I have replaced the leak of pipes as I know they are prone to faults.

Still will not start.

If I block of the return pipe from the pump and tow start, the car starts and runs fine but as soon as the return pipe is unblocked the car ticks over lumpy and will not accelerate.

Will not start on the key

Garage says it is injector pump, but i am not convinced (Probably as they want a grand to replace it)

Please help as I am at my wits end with this.

Take it to a Vauxhall dealer they know of this problem. It probably is the injector pump which has an immobiliser built into it this could be the problem. You are correct in leak off pipe problems also leaks from injector seals will give same symptom, you do not have a leak off return to the tank as in many other diesels that's why an air leak from either leak off return or injector seals will cause no start. The price they quote is about right you will not get a pump for £100.Forget Alex he is away with the fairies on this one.Think about it Alex if 99%of Vauxall diesels ran on petrol that would be an historic moment.Regards Mick.
Possibly the fuel regulation valve. But maybe you could find the pump and the regulation valve at a salvage yard. Good luck.
i'm not 100% on vectra's even thou ive owned more than one take it the di may stand for diesel? if it does is it often left parked facing up hill?! if so park it the opposite way my old vectra used to cut out all the time and not start cos of this i only found out when i part exd it and the bloke came to pick it up and it wouldnt start i nearly died he was cool and roll started it.
buy a manual and and it will have a list of what it might be , that way you can rule out what its not and before you knows what has happened you will be fixing it yourself
try draining the diesel fuel filter and then re prime it your best bet is to buy a haynes workshop manual worth every penny also try to contact the previous owner for some additional insights into the cars history
Had the same thing mate, it IS the injector pump, the replacement isnt overly-expensive but Labour's around £550..dont pay anymore mate.
Good luck
The problem is that too much air is getting into the system or not enough fuel is. On a petrol a tune-up will solve it but if its a diesel it could be very serious. A lack of petrol on Vauxhall diesels is 99% caused by faulty fuel pumps or faulty compressors. A fuel pump isn't bad, £200 should cover it, but a faulty compressor means a new engine. The best way to test for a faulty compressor is to attach it to another car running using jumpe leads and pump the accelerator for a few seconds. Then try your best to start it. If it starts after a lot of effort then you may as well scrap the car, if this doesn't start it then the fuel pump is the most likely. You should be able to source a re-con one for about £100 and get it fitted for the same.
try new filter & lift pump not expencive then sorry new delivery pump
before you do anything, look at power steering resevoir then look down front of engine and you will see 2 pipes follow them untill you reach the banjo's that secure them and make sure they are tight as ive seen lots that work loose.
the injector seals on the 2.0 litre dti engine are prone to go have you tried parking the vehicle on a hill with the back end up in the air the fuel cannot leak back to the tank if it starts its the seals
