I need to replace the front pipe and central silencer?

on the exhaust system of my y1999-v ford transit 2.5d s.w.b panel van, is it a relatively straight forward task ,apart from the rubber mounts +gaskets /exhaust sections/exhaust paste,is their any other parts/tools i need .Also some good tips on fitting exhausts would be much appreciated

Answers:
then do it
fitting is easy, its getting them off thats the hard part, large hammer and grinder for me every time,,i remove from back to front an then put back from front to back, each section at a time, good luck x
it should be straight forward!! you may need a hammer to smack the tailpipe section away from the centre box as they have a tendancy to heatweld themselves together. also a good ratchet socket set with a 6"-8" extension bar. its not much of a tip but when you have the exhaust in place, use axle stands to support its weight, that way you can move a bit more freely and both hands are available for any awkward spots and/or extra leverage.
good luck mate, hope this helps
I have a late 92 Transit, the Exhaust is easy. but also I always have on hand the Haynes service and repair manual. a must for all D.I.Y. work on your vehicle. you didn't say if it was the turbo model or normally- aspirated. since certain engines in the Transit diesel range are fitted with Emission control systems.
The book recomends that you remove the complete system, to avoid straining the individual sections. It is recomended that you use axel stands. First unscrew the nuts from the manifold flange, then lower the exhaust downpipe and remove the Gasket.
Disconect the mountaing rubbers, and lower the compleat system from the vehicle.
Refitting is a reversal of removing, but clean the flange mating faces, and fit a new gaskit. Tighten the flange nuts to the specified torque.(40-30Nm).
The exhust system sections are secured by U-bolt clamps or by flange joints,to separate the sections, undo the flange retaining nuts or the U-bolt nuts, as applicable, then detach the joint. with the U-bolt coupling, the sections are sleeve-jointed, and these will separate by either soaking in penetrating oil, then gripping and pulling them apart, or by cutting them free with a hacksaw, or possiblly by prising them free using a suitable screwdriver, any major problems you get stuck with give me a E-mail and I will look it up. If I don't know of hand. I would also recomend to keep at hand WD40. DO NOT TAKE ANY CHANCES UNDERNEATH: PLEASE USE AXEL STANDS. and not just the vans jack. at least a good hydraulic jack
its not so difficult u hav to lift at least 1 metre
normaly easy to do but you may need a grinder to grind the old bolts off as thease do tend to get rusty
do it or take it Kwik fit
