Manual or automatic?
Answers:
I prefer automatic(cause of the traf.) but manual is cheaper..
Go with manual!
Manual
Depends on your wants. I prefer manual. But with heavy traffic, and no moving, the automatic would be better.
Now a days, it is a matter of personal preference. The gas mileage is negligable. I always prefer a stick. However, if you sit in traffic a lot, or like to eat and talk on your cell phone, it is a pain to shift.
manual, automatics are for old people and lazy americans
a manual is usually more work for the driver. however they last longer and get better fuel economy.
If you commute and drive in heavy traffic daily then the automatic is nice. The manual is more reliable and you get better mileage with one. A lot of men just prefer the manual too.
It's a matter of preference! Can you drive a standard? Do you like to shift all day long? ETC! Some differences are gas mileage, traction in snow, fuel economy!
Automatic for ease and comfort, however manual is probably 10-20% better on economy. The best compromise is to buy an automatic diesel i would suggest and get the best of both worlds.
I like both. But, I have found out that I do not like manual on snowy roads. My son got one because he thought it was "cool" to be shifting, now he is replacing his clutch! You really have to know how to drive one. If you don't, then get a clunker first to learn so you don't tear up your car.
I much prefer autos but only if they have big engines or they are very sluggish. It has to be a prestige car such as a merc, landrover or bmw really. They are also v expensive if they go wrong, unless they are under warenty. If you have a budget car with a smaller engine manuel is best xxx
If your lazy get an auto.If your worried about mpg get a manual.
Manual, they're faster, more economical and you have more control of the engine. But if you're just plain lazy and don't mind always being 5 minutes late and filling the car up more, then go for the Auto.
Manual transmission
Pros-
Less complicated for the average shade tree mechanic to work on.
Able to roll start the vehicle if the battery is low.
Less expensive to replace that an automatic.
Cons-
Always having to push in the clutch when changing gears.
Harder to take off up hill from a stop.
Automatic transmission
Pros-
Able to start off up hill easier than a manual.
Put it in drive (or over-drive if so equipped) and go, no shifting gears.
No gear shift sticking up through the floor board.
Cons-
More complicated to work on.
More expensive to replace.
do not buy auto,u cant even tow it when i breaks down and they always go wrong
manuals are better, but for the last 26 years ive driven autos, its so much easier when youve only got one leg.
first..clutches burn out.. and its around 350 quid each time. auto boxes rarely fail.
manuals tend to be more economical in cities, and autos on motorways.. however, autos dont produce any engine braking. but they always have servo brakes. autos creep in drive, even without your foot on the pedal! (in traffic) but this is great when moving forwards slowly (M25 style) . and you dont roll back on hill starts with an auto.. youll never be in the wrong gear at the lights..and when you hit the kickdown, all hell breaks loose under the bonnet and you ACCELLERATE.. ok, this only really happens in big autos, like my present 175bhp volvo, or a 7 and 5 series BMW.
and at the other end of the scale, the ford fiesta 1200auto does 60+ to teh gallon and pops along at 80 quite comfortably. but i cant put a full set of welding bottles in the boot area. my volvo swallows them.
end of the day it depends what you want to do with it, what you expect from it.
It depends on your comfort level, driving habits and if your knees are in good shape.
Manual
pros-better control, better fuel economy on highway, more fun to drive.
cons-clutch wear, expensive to replace, fuel economy sucks in the city, hard on knees.
Automatic
pros-Auto transmissions are for fuel efficient now because of better shifting, easier to drive, better fuel economy in city.
cons-Tranny oil needs to be changed every 3 years, not as fun to drive.
If you keep your Auto tranny fluid clean the tranny will last a long time.
If you shift properly and not ride the clutch the clutch should last a long time.
Depends what you want it for. Lots of traffic work might suggest an automatic; sports car probably a manual change is better. There is a thought that anything over 2 litre is better automatic - I tend to agree.
For me preferably manual, you get more power, acceleration, and function, but it can be a hastle in heavy traffic.
If you're looking for an easy ride, automatic is definitely easier but the "quality of drive" isn't as good as manual.
what do YOU prefer? i drive an auto cos i'm lazy, hubby drives a manual cos he hates autos lol
If I have a choice, manual. But autos are confortable in the city.
depends really, if your doing open road driving, it must be manual, but if your never out of town, automatic, you get a sore foot constantly pressing the bloody clutch pedal.
manual
Depends what you prefer. Automatic is more relaxing to drive and is actually faster to all but the most experienced drivers, it changes into the appropiate gear far more quickly than a human being can and doesn't lose speed on a hill like a manual will.
Manual is more fun though, you feel more like part of the driving of the car and is faster if you really work it. Also since Automatics have gone all computerised they been less reliable than a plumbers estimate!!
