Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. In your case, the mileage is also helpful. A 2 or 4 stroke will have different solutions to your problem.
runnin rich maybe? sounds like a needle and jet issue.

sorry but much more info req ie .is it 2 or 4 stroke bike ..is it only between 1st and 2nd ..what cc is it .is clutch adjusted correctly or is it slipping .
sounds electrical try all connections for close fit ,change spark plug check cdi unit
