How can i tell if my car takes leaded or unleaded petrol. its a D reg renault 5?

I had a C reg Renault 5 1.1 TL, and it took unleaded just fine, with no need to alternate.
It should run Fine on Unleaded as its a D reg.
It takes UNLEADED.
Get a Haynes book & verify - but it will happily run on normal unleaded.
Fill it with half of each.
It runs on unleaded, which is wonderful since you can't even find leaded fuel these days, at least in the United States.

If you get the Chassis number which is on the regestration documents, and get in touch with a main Renault dealer, they can look it up and let you know.
The hole where the petrol cap goes is made smaller on an unleaded car so you shouldn't be able to fit a leaded petrol pump inside, so check if the leaded pump fits if not theres your answer.
D reg renault 5 is leaded fuel, unless it is fitted with a minus 4 tdc pickup.you can telll its a minus 4 tdc because it is yellow and its the lead that runs from the ignition module to the fly wheel pick up, it retards the timing by 4 degrees.
It don't matter cause you can't purchase unleaded petrol nor can you purchase an additive for it. Unleaded petrol will not harm your engine in any way. Keep your oil changed regularly and that will do the trick. Leaded gasoline in the old days helped to lube the engine.as the lead did this. Today's engine oils take care of that problem.
