I had my MOT done 10 months ago at the time they did not charge me ..?

BTW..the bill would not arrive after so many months, its not like you had an account or whatever. Mot's usually are paid at the time.

Legally? Yeah, probably since you didn't pay it they can claim they billed you and you ignored them. Pay it, write it off to him being an idiot. But don't give it to him, pay it at the garage and get a receipt.

legally you owe them the money - you have the MOT certificate, which is proof of work done, if you cant prove you settled the bill, then technically they can go after you.
It does sound like he's at least partly responsible for this though, so I would make sure you pay the garage directly, ideally by cheque or credit card, so the money doesnt go directly into his pocket.

Sounds like he is bitter, he will use ANY excuse to contact you.
Change your number or just tell him to swing for it and if you feel like it tell him all the nice things you have done for him and send him an invoce.
Or pay it and then he has no excuse to contact you it may be the best £40.00 you have spent just to get rid of him!
By law he cant start chasing you for something that was done as a gift. He mot'd your car as a gift for you so you would not have to pay. Just because you have split up it doesn't mean he can start harassing you to pay for his gifts.

Just ignore it, whats he going to do, come and take the MOT back, its no use to him!! As you offered to pay at the time, they cannot now start chasing you for the money.
