Got an X reg VW Passat TDI?

went to use the boot yesterday and now it wont lock, I've tried doing it manually, using the central locking and using the keyhole and button on the drivers door but it wont lock at all. It looks like the mechanism isnt moving. It normally makes a clunking sound as you lock it but now its doing nothing! Can someone help me before I take it to a garage and probably get ripped off? Thanx

Remove the intenal panel and have a proper look at the mechanism.
normally the lock require lubrication with special lock oil, and this will sort the job out.
if you mean it wont shut then the lock is in the locked position. open close and open again with the boot lid open. if it shuts but does not lock listen to the lock as someone works the central locking, if you cant hear the plunger motor its u/s or a wire has fell out.
Check your vacuum pipe that's what operates your CDL on a Passat. The vacuum pump is situated in the boot r/h side on European versions. From this small diameter pipes actually operate your CDL system. If a pipe has a small split your CDL will not operate.Check these first then come back to me if its not rectified Regards Mick
thats an interesting question but hard to understand lol
What year is X reg?. If it is a Passat from 1997 on it can be the micro-switch in the boot lock. It can be the micro-switch in the handle you use when lifting it by hand. Or it can be,, & most likely is the central locking motor stuck in open position. If it is before 1997, ignore this.
