I might buy a renault scenic but the service light is on should i buy?

Answers:
if private no if garage then yes but i would recommend only if from a main dealer . service lights on can spell big trouble if car as not been long serviced . look at mileage from last service and what service is due next . as some garages will plug in to cancel service light and not do the important things like change cam belt (can cost you 1500 upwards if that goes ) history on a diesel car is more important . my worry would be if current seller as not bothered to get service or other issue sorted what else is not been done on car my advise is to walk away
If you are buying from a dealership or garage.ask them for a service before you buy. If from a private buyer ask for the relevant paper work to show past servicing/or due date of servicing. and what was done.receipts if poss. If your not sure don't be afraid to ask questions, it is a big investment. Always ask for service docs in any case as some parts that have been replaced may have guarantees connected to them. Rac or AA do an inspection at around £50, it might be worth it.
Hi >

A Don't touch the horrible things.
B If it is a private sale, doubly don't touch it
C If it is from a dealer, the light should not be on !!
D Look for a Pontiac Transam - you can get one for the same price, and much more fun.
sounds dodgy
no don't touch it partner has a Clio sport low miles same thing hap pend serves light dose not all ways mean it needs service it works as a fault code when the engine management has a fault & that box of tricks is 500 quid just 4 the part 1000 if renault fit it common falt in renaults the box lets water in & then it gets expencive
renault are PIECES OF CRAP, NEVER BUY A PIECE OF CRAP.
purchase a nissan, or possiably a toyota. BUT NEVER A PIECE OF CRAP.
just because the engine light is on doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong. what you need to look for when buying cars are major oil leaks, unusual noises while driving and/or engine running, rough engine performance or transmission shift. and of course physical appearence, if the interior is stained or under the hood is filthy or theres bags of candy and french fries under the back seat means the previouse owner probably didnt take care of it and it may be ready for a lot of minor repairs.
No, don't buy it. For piece of mind, get something with a Japanese badge on it.

The reason Toyota are now the biggest car maker, is partly because they rarely go wrong. Just look at customer satisfaction surveys (e.g. JD Power).
the service light on these cars indicates engine management fault not a service due, if buying make it part of the deal to be sorted out and when you pick it up make sure the service light comes on and goes out as it should.
no..it needs servicing thats why light is on.
Get the seller to have it fully serviced before you buy. If you dont, it could prove costly.
