Does anybody else grudge paying their Road Tax?

Nothing but roadworks, substandard road surfaces, pot holes, massive traffic jams. Where does our money go?

Answers:
i think the whole tax system is a shambles you pay tax on your wages then your taxed on what you buy then there is vat its never ending. the thing which gets me even more is that they keep coming up with new stealth tax on everything .where i live the roads are resurfaced then they decide to start cutting up through it to put in pipes .the more i think about it the madder i get people should stand up againt the system aggggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!.
lol
of course but how can we change it. Nobody has the courage to stand up and shout back. If you do you just get an abso.
considering the state of the roads yes of course
Every body does but we have no choice but cough up
yes i do, aswell as the petrol and services and mots, we pay enough for the car itself, but id rather that then have to get a bus.
Boony, have you ever been to Scotland? The roads up there are all privately owned. They are immaculate and every so often there is a sign with the company who owns the road's phone number so you can report holes etc.
I was travelling the road between Oban and Fort William, I came across a hole. The next day there was a crew there mending it.
Yep. It's lame. Especially considering all the other taxes we have to pay to the local councils.

Not forgetting that to run a car you have to pay for insurance, maintenance, petrol and MOT. It's ridiculous.

Also, our council wastes money on putting things like chicanes in everywhere. I know they're meant to slow cars down, which is a good thing in pedestrian areas, but my council has recently put 2 in right on corners, and I've almost had several accidents when I've had right of way but the idiot coming the other way doesn't care about that and can't see round the corner, so just goes anyway. Just causes road rage if you ask me.
Yes,especially as you pay via council tax too, just to keep the roads maintained. they reckon the MP's wanna put the price up even more.now they lowered it for smaller cars
Motorists are so heavily taxed in the UK through Road Fund tax, Fuel Tax, Duty on new cars etc and to add insult to injury, the Government is now talking about a policy of national tolls for road usage. I begrudge paying these taxes particularly when the quality of service we receive in return in so poor.
Tax of any kind is a con - you get money for a hard days work then they take it all off you through taxing everything and they want you to be grateful for public services that are useless and for an armed force that bombs everybody for no good reason. Its all a con making life a tough struggle - its a system devised by the ruling classes. There is no such thing as democracy we are all controlled to work, sleep go to the toilet make babies and get buried its a hell all of it. We should stand up and fight like we did for the poll tax - why did they stop fighting the poll tax when they changed the name to council tax - that is the real evil tax. I am going to ask that question.
Yes, the roads are in such a shocking state :(
Here in Spain there is no road tax as such where we have to display the tax disc. But we do have a display sticker to prove we have a yearly MOT. We pay a relatively cheap tax (between 35€- 75 euros depending on petrol or diesel) But my main beef with the system here is that when you sell or buy a car you have to go to the traffic office with all documents (buyer and seller) pay a change of owner tax which is 4% of the value of the vehicle and wait hours to do so. So after all that I think you are better off in a way as all you have to do is fill in the log book and both send it to the DVLC. So you pay one way and we the other. You at least have alot less hassle. By the way our roads and pavements are alot worse than yours!!
its begrudge
It's not that much money compared to fuel and insurance.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
In the US, roads are supposed to be paid through taxes on gasoline, diesel fuel, anything that is fuel for a motor vehicle. The problem comes when state governments take the tax revenue and dump it in their general operating budget and then spend it on God only knows what. Not roads obviously.

With all our modern technology, why can't we develop a road surface which lasts more than a year or two? Or is it just job security for road construction companies who donate heavily to political campaigns?
In France the road tax is in with the fuel cost and that's cheaper than here! they have much better roads.Yes were robbed in this country!
Not now that it's only £50 a year for my car. I almost pay that to fill it with fuel a week.
