Peugoet 405 diesel - headlight problem?
i think it could be a relay - if so which one

Answers:
Just try taking each one out in turn untill you find the right one
It's usually indicated on the fusebox cover which relay does what.
Flash your lights till you find the one that clicks. Yuo may need another helper to flash them for you.
Really
the main beam works when the lights are off ?
Sounds like the headlamp flasher works not the main beam, which sounds more like the dip switch than anything else.
If cash is short fit a relay which is fed from the wire from light on/off switch to the dip switch, the coil earths through Dip Beam while the switched connection ( energise to make) feeds Main Beam That way with headlamps on Dip work normally but when dip goes off main beam comes on!
Standard bodge for oldies bough from auction with hideously expensve parts..
Some time since I did a 405.
