Why does my gear stick squeak?
Answers:
Could be a lack of lubrication.. or you could really have a mouse in there and it could be chewing through the wires as we speak!
I'd take your car to a local garage about the power steering fluid though as why would it need it if you haven't got power steering? You may have it but it may not be working properly!
try not too feed the mouse.it will go away in time:)
can you give us a few more details please, does it only squeak when your changing gear ? where does the squeak sound like its coming from ? where is this well ? does it do it when the engine isnt running, can you a be a bit more thorough then we can help you a bit better
well if it says empty on the well then fill it and have a drive and see . if it is still making the noise then go to your dad brother, or neighbour and ask them.
have your thrush Bering checked
It could be the Clutch Pedal Pivot, Clutch Cable, Clutch Release Bearing, or the gear linkage or the pivot at the bottom of the gear lever.
So sit in the seat don't touch the clutch or start the engine and just wobble the gear lever from side to side, if it squeaks it is the linkage or more likely the lever pivot.
Next try to put it into gear, no clutch or engine, if it squeaks now and did not from side to side it is the linkage.
If moving the lever did not make it squeak then put it in neutral and press the clutch down, did it squeak, if so it is the cable or the pedal pivot a real awkward thing to lubricate, or ocasionally the return spring.
If the squeak has still not appeared start the engine, and press the clutch,
If the squeak starts as you push the clutch it is the clutch release bearing which may mean a new clutch, expensive, possibly terminally so for a 92 golf,
Some VWs had the release bearing outside the gearbox casing but I dont know about yours.
If the squeak shuts up when you push the clutch pedal check the gearbox oil, a filthy job, it should be up to the level plug level with the bottom of the drive shafts,
If this doesn't find the squeak look for a mouse.
No the problem will be your clutch cable or if hydraulic the connection. press the pedal with the engine off, if you hear the mouse spray some wd 40 or fairy liquid where the cable attaches the top of the pedal MAKE SURE NOT TO CONTAMINATE THE PEDAL RUBBER!!
If this doesn't work have a friend listen under the bonnet while you press, and spray accordingly. It may also be the rubber bushes on the gear change linkage, again locate ( under the car ) and spray.
That will sort it, if not borrow a cat for a night and leave it in the footwell. Joke!!
either the clutch bearing release arm partially seized or the pedal bracket in the car is about to shear off.
spray the top of your clutch pedal where the cable joins with WD40 that will fix it
firstly its a golf? um clutch needs doing bung in a garage and wait for the hefty bill to knock you out. or get some silly sod that's on the phone and driving to drive up the ***. then buy a new one with the insurance money.(i have never done this but my father in law has?)
