ive just put anew headgasket on my 420 sldi rover but didnt mark the timing properly so now having a job to time up from beginning,ive got camshaft mark ok but its crank timing mark im pulling me hair out at.HELP

hi the crankshaft timing mark is via a locking pin inserted into the flywheel through a small hole in a plate at the front off the engine fastened to the gearbox i think its probably about an 8 mm hole .
Yes the timing marks are usually not actually on the pully, or pinion but by inserting a timing locking pin into a hole through the pully or pinion into the block.
If the haynes manual doesnt cover diesel engines buy one for a peugeot diesel of a similalr age i.e. 306 as it will probably be the pug XUD9 engine in the vehicle.
