Is the AM in CB radios still in use.?

I used to use the AM frequency on the CB Radio when i worked in London. We allways had to keep an ear open for the plods (they were easy to fix) does the AM still exist and if so do many use it?

Answers:
Why yes.yes it is.

AM is quite often the main Mode used in Ireland. There are also a few up Scotland way especially in the more remote areas. Although predominantly in England we use FM but there are still, even now, people using AM on the mid band. A lot more use USB (The top part of an AM signal) around the 27.555MHz frequency (Above the mid block and below the UK27/81) as DX'ing takes place. If you look on eBay you will see still a fair amount of AM CB Radios exchanging hands. Some try to make their AM CB adverts look like they are FM and some people are caught out buying an AM instead of an FM. That said, they still are sought after so if you have one you're not sure what to do with.. shove it on eBay.

Since the change in Amateur radio licencing a lot of CB'ers have gone down the route of Amateur radio through the Foundation licence. There are still plenty on CB but sometimes they monitor just waiting for their friends to come on air making CB seem un-used. In some of the bigger towns/cities CB still thrives..on all bands ;o)

10-10 good buddy,

In some areas they do yeah, but mostly you get Am'ers using sideband trying to DX.
Most have gone over to FM.
Occasionally i hear Spanish and Italians calling out on the 27 MHz CB freq.
