Radiator help?

My husband says my radiater needs flushed out and the radiater fluid is brown what does this mean? Could this have anything to do with my idealing problem?

The brown color indicates that the system is very rusty. Cleaning is needed but depending on the condition of the radiator, could cause it to stop up. It is apparent that no type of anti-freeze has been in the system for some time. Have the system cleaned or at least drained and flulshed with clean water until the water being drained runs clear. Then install anti-freeze. I would recommend replacing the thermostat during this operation. Be sure your heater is turned to full heat. This will get the dirt out of the heater as well.
How old is the car? some older cars when you flush the radiator causes bigger problems like blowing the water pump so be carefull especially if it is an older car.
No the idling is due to bad air filter, dirty spark plugs, dirty injectors, somethign with the fuel/air delivery system. Your coolant is brown because it's old. The radiator is bascially a big copper tube. When the water passes through it, over time the heating and cooling of it causes a breakdown in the coating of the copper, coloring the water. Also, if you have any kind of a head gasket leak (you probably don't though) oil could get in there as well. No big hurry but get the radiator flushed and filled and chagne the thermostat, too. The antifreeze should be green in color, or orange if you need Dexron II.
Your husband is right. You say your radiator fluid is brown? Is there any antifreeze in it? That sounds like rusty water which wouldn't happen if you have antifreeze in it. Or it could have overheated. Anyway, flush it out and refill it with 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water. If you take it to a garage they will probably use tap water so have your husband do it with the Prestone flush and fill kit. If you have idling problems that is something else unless you overheated it which means you probably have engine problems.
He is probably talking dirty to you and you haven't got the clue! Ask him to tell you what he really means!
